Hi! I'm Sarah Moran, an Avon Independent Sales Representative, aka an affiliate marketer, and if you choose to click on an Avon website link in my blog and purchase something I will make a small commission from the retailer (if i'm within your area, otherwise you'll be re-directed). Is that cool? :)
Which avon product is good for mosquitoes? There is more than one product that AVON offers to repel mosquitoes. Avon's Bug Guard line is DEET-free with some of the best mosquito protection in it's category; plus the ability to repels other pests. If you're looking for the home anecdotal answer to which avon product is good for mosquitoes, we'll cover that one too. Click Read More to continue reading! Hi! Is that cool? :) AVON SKIN SO SOFT BUG GUARD Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard is a line of AVON products that protects against mosquitoes, gnats, deer ticks, sand flies, no-seeums, and biting midges. It comes in a spray form, lotion, towelette and there is also an anti-itch spray for bug bites. Skin So Soft Bug Guard is DEET-free an ideal choice for those wishing to avoid the chemical. Bug Guard products are also PABA-free, dermatologist-tested, and contain Vitamin E. The CDC also stated that AVON's Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus IR3535® Gentle Breeze® SPF 30 Lotion protects against mosquitoes that may carry the Zika virus! More info on why DEET-free is better... There are several different options of Skin So Soft Bug Guard and the first difference as a shopper you may notice is the color of the bottles. Why are the different options so important? The insect repellents differ in protections that's why! SKIN SO SOFT BUG GUARD PLUS IR3535 EXPEDITION Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus IR3535 Expedition has the active ingredient of IR3535! What protections do the green bottles of the Expedition set of Bug Guard carry within?
The main difference to me is that while the Aerosol Spray from the Expedition line offers 2 less in SPF at 28 SPF versus the Pump Sprays with their SPF of 30, the Aerosol Spray not only provides the same 8 HR protection against mosquitoes it has the longer protection against deer ticks (which may carry Lyme Disease) at 12 HR of protection vs the pump sprays which only offer 10 HR protection against deer ticks. In this case you may need to ask which you prioritize more? Higher SPF protection? Go with the Pump Sprays. Longer protection against deer ticks? Go with the Aerosol Spray. SKIN SO SOFT BUG GUARD PLUS PICARIDIN Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus Picaridin has the active ingredient Picaridin. What protections lie within the silver packaging of the Picaridin Bug Guard?
The main differences here to me are between the products length of protection, what they protect against, and what they contain. The Aerosol Spray with Picaridin has the lowest hour protection for both mosquitoes and deer ticks and does not contain Aloe Vera although it does offer 3 HR protection against black flies. On the other side of things, the Towelettes mention no protection against black flies though they contain Aloe Vera and the same length of protection against mosquitoes and deer ticks as the pump spray. The Pump Spray, in my eyes, is the best value: offers 8 HR protection against mosquitoes, 12 HR protection against deer ticks, 3 HR protection against black flies and does also contain Aloe Vera unlike the Aerosol Spray. SKIN SO SOFT BUG GUARD PLUS IR3535: Gentle Breeze SPF 30 Lotion & Cool N' Fabulous SPF 30 Lotion Disappearing Color Gentle Breeze and Cool N' Fabulous are two lotions from AVON that repels mosquitoes and more. The Gentle Breeze is the lotion the CDC said will protect against mosquitoes that may carry the Zika virus. What are the other reasons these lotions would be set apart from the Expedition set though they contain the same active ingredient IR3535 and have a similar SPF 30 rating? This again has to do with their functionalities. The lotions are water resistant! What kind of protection do the lotions have?
What are the major differences between the lotions? I have yet to mention the disappearing color feature of the pediatrician-tested Cool N' Fabulous which was made with children in mind. Cool N' Fabulous lotion is colored blue so that you can see how well or not that you have rubbed the lotion into your child's skin. A neat and helpful feature especially for some ankle-biters who are anxious to go play instead of having sunscreen/insect repellent rubbed on them. Gentle Breeze offers similar protection but it lacks the disappearing color feature of Cool N' Fabulous but if you're an adult you won't really miss it. The Best of Bug Guard The best choice of the Bug Guard products may really come down to what you need and when. The Expedition line has SPF, with its best overall HR protection (in my opinion) coming from the Aerosol Spray, this line also does not have Aloe Vera or repel black flies. The Plus Picaridin Pump Sprays and Aerosol do repel black flies and minus the Aerosol spray do have both Vitamin E and Aloe Vera and a similar HR protection in the Picaridin Pump Spray as the Expedition's Aerosol Spray, however the Picaridin line does not have SPF protection. Then last, but not least in some ways, the lotions which have the lowest hourly protection, but have Vitamin E, Aloe, SPF, and black fly protection, and the added boon of water resistance with one made specifically to help with application on children. So it all really does come down to what you need and when you need it. Do you need SPF protection? Go for the Expedition line. Do you need protection from black flies or maybe don't need protection from the sun? Check out the Picaridin line. Do you want some water resistant sunscreen/insect repellent? Need some easy to use on children? Check out the lotions. Whatever you decide there are many great options and ways of application, aerosol spray which can be a quick application over skin/clothing, towelettes which may be handy on the go, pump sprays again which can be quickly applied over skin/clothing and the lotions that go directly on your skin. Which Bug Guard Plus product is your favorite? Let me know in the comments! No...I didn't forget the one lotion/spray/oil Back in the day my mother used Skin So Soft Original Lotion on me to repel mosquitoes since DEET was known to be harmful at the time but there just weren't that many alternatives available, especially safer ones for young kids. While Skin So Soft Original may be the sought after of AVON products for insect repellent; it's intended use is for its moisturizing benefits and hence why we're not supposed to recommend it as an insect repellent. However, many still remember and ask about this product. The choice is yours. I have even used it as insect repellent among other things but that's a different article. What is in the Skin So Soft Original lotion that may make it a partially effective (for about 2 HR and only against certain species of mosquito & ticks) insect repellent? Skin So Soft "Original" has Jojoba as an ingredient which may be why certain insects avoid it. Jojoba oil is used to kill some pests by clogging the holes in the exoskeleton of an insect and smothering it to death. Oils are also said to disrupt the feeding and egg laying of some insects as well. Full credit to https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/special/organic/using-jojoba-oil-for-pests.htm where I was able to find that information. It's effect may only last possibly 2 HR and only against 2 mosquito species and one tick type as found by https://www.consumerreports.org/insect-repellents/avon-skin-so-soft-review-bug-spray/ You may want to make sure you have more comprehensive and longer lasting protection by using an intended insect repellent like those found in AVON's Skin So Soft Bug Guard line.
